¿ESTOY AMAMANTANDO BIEN?

Para saber si la lactancia va bien, contesta estas preguntas cuando tu bebé tiene entre 5 y 7 días.

1. En un lapso de 24 horas el bebé tiene bastantes movimientos intestinales de color mostaza y con fibras, (no manchas).

2. ¿El bebé está mojando de 5 – 7 pañales en 24 horas?

3. ¿Los senos se sienten llenos antes de amamantar y suaves luego de amamantar?

4. Si la madre tuvo grietas en los pezones al inicio, estas fueron resueltas?

5. ¿Se escucha tragar al bebé cuando amamanta?

6. ¿El bebé amamanta por lo menos 8 veces en 24 horas?

7. ¿El bebé parece satisfecho luego de amamantar?

8. ¿Existen grietas, tension, enrojecimiento o areas firmes en ambos senos?

9. ¿El bebé ha empezado a ganar ½ - 1 onza por día?

Si has contestado NO a cualquiera de estas preguntas, podría haber problemas con la lactancia. Consulta a tu pediatra o a un experto en lactancia. (Tomado del Colegio de Medicina de Stanford; Información de lactancia para el recién nacido).

IS BREASTFEEDING GOING WELL?

To know that breastfeeding is going well, answer these questions when the baby is 5 - 7 days old.

1. Is the baby having several bowel movements in 24 hours that are mustard yellow with curds in them? ("poop you can scoop", not just a smear).

2. Is the baby wetting 5 - 7 diapers in 24 hours?

3. Do the breasts feel full before feeding and softer after feeding?

4. If the mother had initial nipple soreness, is this resolved?

5. Do you hear swallowing when the baby is breastfeeding?

6. Is the baby eating at least 8 times in 24 hours?

7. Does the baby seem satisfied after a feeding?
8. Are there any sore, tender, or red and firm areas in either breast? 

9. Has the baby started gaining ½ - 1 ounce per day?

If you have answered NO to any of these questions, there may be some problems with feeding. Have the parents call their pediatrician and/or a Lactation Consultant. (Taken from Stanford School of Medicine, Newborn Nursery Information).
